The game player on pbskids.org provides a customizable play experience, allowing children to engage with our games in the ways that best suit their individual needs. When playing a game, you'll have the ability to change settings related to sound, closed captions, and dialog. To turn settings on or off, view current settings, or update settings, follow these instructions.
- Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner of the game player. This will open a panel over the game player with all available settings options for the game you are playing.
- Click on any of the setting buttons at the bottom of the player to turn that option on or off. Available options could include:
- Main Sound: Controls all sound within the game
- Closed Captions: Controls that closed caption text that appears on screen as characters are talking
- Music: Controls only the background music of the game
- Sound Effects: Controls only the sound effects of the game including sounds that play when you interact with elements of a game
- Dialog: Controls the voice over that provides information on how to play the game as you're playing it
- To change the volume of individual sound options, click on the Settings button on the bottom right of the player
- Navigate to the sound you want to change and
- Click on the blue button on the left to turn the sound option on or off
- Click on a section of the sound bar on the right to raise or lower the sound
- Click the red back arrow at the top right corner or click outside of the settings panel to return to the main settings panel
- Click the red arrow button in the top right corner or the green play game button to return to playing your game
- Navigate to the sound you want to change and
Your updates will appear immediately within your game. In addition, your settings will remain as you play other games across the website if those settings are available. If a game does not have a setting option available (ex. the game does not have the option to turn off dialog) then that setting option will not appear as an option.
