To format closed captions on pbskids.org videos, please follow the instructions below.
- Click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the video player. If you do not see the gear icon, hover your mouse over the video and the icon will appear.
- A box will open with multiple formatting options available under the "Closed Captioning" heading. You can modify the following areas of your captions:
- Text: This is the color of the text on the screen. You can select the text color and text opacity from the dropdown menus.
- Text Background: This is the color behind the text. You can select the background color and the opacity from the dropdown menus.
- Caption Area Background: This is the color of the entire area of the text box and is larger than the text background area. You can select the area background color and opacity from the dropdown menus.
- Font Size: This increases or decreases the size of the font within the video player. You can select the font size (as a percentage) from the dropdown menu.
- Text Edge Style: This allows you to add styling to the text, such as a drop shadow, to help make text stand out more and easier to read. You can select the edge style from the dropdown menu.
- Font Family: This allows you to select a different font to make captions easier to read. You can select a font from the dropdown menu.
- Click the "Done" button to save your changes and view them within your video.
Your updates will appear immediately within your video. In addition, your settings will remain as you view other videos across the website.
To go back to the original closed caption formatting, please follow these instructions:
- Click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the video player. If you do not see the gear icon, hover your mouse over the video and the icon will appear.
- A box will open with the available formatting options. Click the "Reset" button at the bottom of the box.
